RotClub: tasting session (EN/NL)

Are you interested hot sauces and other spicy condiments?

Saturday 22 August we invite you for a tasting session where you will learn some basics of fermented hot sauces, but also taste spicy condiments with fellow fermenters. We will start off with an introduction in how you can ferment a hot sauce and what the paramaters can be. After the introduction, we invite everyone to put their spicy condiments (fermented or not) on the table and share recipes and experiences with one another. We will provide for fresh bread to taste the condiments.

This tasting session will surely inspire you to experiment more with spicy condiments!

* Bring: For this tasting session we look for as many spicy condiments to be brought and tasted. So bring if you made anything

* Open: This workshop is free to visit and does not require experience.

BAKING BREAD: FOCACCIA EVENING - intermediate level

RotClub: open fermentation session (EN/NL)

Less course, more kitchen-table: let's make sourdough focaccia together! The good kind, with lots of olive oil and salt. We make the dough together and talk over the details that make or break it: hydration, the dimpling, knowing when it's properly proved. Then we eat a warm one straight out of the oven and you take your own dough home to bake off the next day.

Two evenings, pick the one that fits you:

* Wednesday 29 July - for first-timers, with Flo

* Tuesday 25 August - for those who already bake, with Stefano and Flo

Hosted by Flo from Flo Bakestudio, baker, pastry chef, and data analyst the rest of the week, so she can tell you exactly where your focaccia went wrong and why. For August she's joined by Stefano of PanePane in Voorburg, who lectures and researches sustainability at Leiden University and, being Italian, has been speaking the language of focaccia since birth.

Regenerative flour from Graanbroeders + all other ingredients included, plus plenty of tasting & talking. Just bring tupperware for your dough.

We’ll be getting our hands dirty with fun, practical activities, sharing more about EnergieKas, and exploring how you can join and contribute.

StadsLab: The Healthy City

We invite you to join us for Pop Session #2, taking place at EnergieKas on the rooftop of de Helena. Our guest speaker for this evening is Ushma Issar, Health-ing Systems Innovator.

Ushma Issar is a systems innovator working at the frontier of health-ing, the continuous, collective practice of creating the conditions for people, communities, and ecosystems to thrive. As CEO of Rypple, a global health ecosystem hub, she focuses on shifting societies from reactive, disease-driven systems toward preventive, regenerative, and economically viable pathways for wellbeing.

Her work bridges health policy, economics, and systems thinking, translating complex evidence into practical tools that help governments, organisations, and communities act on prevention, equity, and long-term resilience. Rather than treating health as a sector, Ushma approaches it as a societal capability, shaped by how we design incentives, governance, environments, and relationships.

Energiekas is a cultural test-site that offers space for imagination, experimentation, and encounters at the intersection of art, climate, and science. A place to explore new ways of seeing, growing, creating, building, and living together. EnergieKas is a non-profit, bottom-up and hands-on project. 

At our brand new StadsLab we reimagine the existing city. How do we design regenerative, climate-adaptive and just ways of living together, from street to region and from civic initiative to institutional policy? StadsLab is a collaboration between EnergieKas and Popdistrict.

About Popdistrict & Pop Sessions

Popdistrict is a 25,000 m² cultural institution with a tramline running straight through its centre. The district’s public space connects dozens of locations housing creative entrepreneurs and cultural organisations, while also providing a stage for numerous music festivals, including Sniester, Grauzone, and Rewire.

During Pop Sessions, we come together to explore the questions that concern us. One of these questions is how we collectively organise space in our city. Who has access? Who decides? What collective models can we apply? And who holds the power?

Each Pop Session consists of a lecture, conversation, and short workshop. Afterwards, there will be space to continue the discussion informally.

Come (on up) and make poetry on the roof!

Think candles, tea, beer, wine, and lots of paper. We’ll write poetry, together and on our own, guided by a shared theme, in a place where the gaze stretches far, and thoughts even further..

• Do you think you could never write a poem? 
• Have you been doing it for years? 
• Do you actually have no idea what a poem even is? 

All three apply to us too, and that doesn’t stop us. Give it a try, or share what you’ve been doing for years. Put a few words on paper, and you might suddenly find yourself reading them aloud by the end of the evening!

ALL LANGUAGES WELCOME!

Language is no barrier, as far as we’re concerned (and we are). Poetry makes its own language, one that cares little for borders or rationality.

MAKING GINGERBEER

Tonight we’re making a large batch of ginger beer for EnergieKas, and everyone will get their own ginger bug to take home so you can start making ginger beer yourself too. Please bring a glass jar for your bug, we will provide the ingredients.

This program is part of Rotclub, a The Hague fermentation club for food cultures

How can we share and develop knowledge, facilities and skills around fermentation, with attention to health, microbial life, the food chain and emerging collective food cultures?

UIT JE DAK

Festival, rondleidingen & yoga

Ook dit jaar is EnergieKas één van de lokaties van het Haagse uit je Dak festival! 

De kans om mee te doen aan een rondleiding of yogales bij ons op het dak, of andere daken in de stad te bezoeken. 

Den Haag heeft een zee aan onbenutte dakruimte, samen te vergelijken met het hele duingebied van Hoek van Holland tot Scheveningen ofwel zestien keer het Zuiderpark. Om te laten zien hoe we die ruimte kunnen benutten, vindt dit weekend het Haagse dakenfestival Uit je Dak plaats. Op bijzondere daken in de stad ontdekken bezoekers welke kansen er liggen, van groene tuinen en zonne-energie tot cultuur en ontspanning.

HOOGTIJ: Resonance, to play or to be played

Expo geluidsinstallaties

This exhibition brings together four sound artworks connected through a shared theme: resonance. Each work invites us to listen to what usually goes unnoticed; the sounds of matter, water, and space itself. Together they encourage us to reconsider our place within these vibrations: as listener, body, and performer. We are all part of a larger whole that is constantly resonating, flowing, and changing.

Maoro Bult presents RO1, an acoustic resonator modeled after a classical cello. Designed as an acoustic body for electronic instruments, it opens up new possibilities for resonance and performance. (Performance 20:30) 

Ear to the Earth presents a preview of their upcoming project Stroomopwaarts, which explores underwater noise pollution. Recordings made beneath the water's surface are brought together with live music. (Performance 19:30 & 21:30)

Arno van Emmerik's sound installation plays with space, time, and distance. The soundscape is inspired by the ten meter high space in which it resonates.

Anaïs Lossouarn explores the resonance of stone instruments: how their sound lingers in the air and travels through the body, finding its way into the rhythm of the heartbeat.

Free entry as part of the Hoogtij Kunstroute.
